In this inside the session segment, we are working on press man releases. The emphasis is on widening the release so that we can limit the amount of space that the receiver has to work with as he progresses down the field.

The whole idea here is to push the wide receiver closer to your help. So if we are playing cover 1 for example, and the Wide Reciever takes an outside release,  our help now becomes the sidelines. We are trying to limit the amount of space that the wide receiver has to work with. By pushing him closer to the sidelines, there’s less room for the quarterback to fit in a throw to the back shoulder or a comeback or dropping a fade in.

Similarly, if the receiver is attempting to go inside by widening his release, we are pushing him closer to our potential low hole help from a linebacker or help in the post from a safety. By pushing the receiver closer to our help, we reduce the space that Quarterback has to work with when he’s trying to fit the throw in.

I explain in further detail how and what we are doing in the video below. If you have any questions or comments on this video, feel free to reach out to me via email at cwilson@alleyesdbcamp.com – thank you for being a member.
