This is the 2nd part of my series on How to Align.  In this part of the series I have devoted it all to boundary corners in man coverage when they are playing off man coverage.

How that boundary corner aligns is super important in man to man coverages.  More times that not,  this is where the offense is going to go with the football vs. pressure by the defense.  Most teams put their best WR into the boundary so when faced with pressure,  that’s where the QB is going to with the ball most of the time.  With that in mind,  it is important that you get the alignments right.

Off man varies a bit from press man in our alignments in each of the major man coverages (Cover 0, 1 and 2 man).  Because of the space between the receiver and the defenders,  some adjustments need to be made in alignments so that we give ourselves the best chances of defending the various routes that may come our way.  Offenses change the routes that are run based on off alignments so it just makes sense that the defenders make some tweaks to counter that.
