Post Views: 2,249 By: Chad Wilson As a defensive back playing press man it is best to have multiple tools in your belt to use on a wide receiver. Simply put, the WR has more than one release to beat you, so it only stands to reason that you have multiple techniques to aid yourself in defeating him. You should have one technique that you are a complete master of when playing press but it’s always good to have something else to go to when you need it. Today we are talking about one of those techniques and that is motor mirror technique. If any of you know me then you know that I am more of a proponent of hard press man coverage. That is where you seek to get your hands on the wide receiver whether that is a two hand jam when he comes right at you or a kick slide with an off hand jam if he is trying to exit to the left or right of you. The motor mirror technique that I teach combines a bit of both a motor and hard press technique. In the video below you will see the drill and hear me talk about my philosophy on applying this technique. I do prefer this technique for undersized cornerbacks as it appeals more to your advantages which are quick feet and change of direction. It can be used by bigger corners but for the long guys, I prefer it as more of a change up. Check out the video below for the finer points of the technique as well as how I run the drill to nail down the technique to perfection.
