Post Views: 2,318 In volume 2 of my outstanding press man drills video we work to handle the speed releasers. Sometimes when you are patient at the line of scrimmage, WRs will try to take advantage of your patience by executing a speed release. Also many speed / track type guys will use a speed release to make use of their best asset which, of course, is speed. In volume II of Outstanding Press Man Drills I show you two great drills to teach you how to handle speed releases while developing important press man skills and abilities. My “Trust Your Kick” drill preps your mind and body for the sudden hard inside and outside releases. A strong kick slide is a great thing to have when you are playing press man and this drill is one of the best at developing that. The “Change Direction Kick Slide Drill” will help you react to the WR that fakes the speed release to move you and then hits you in the other direction. Keeping a rigid upper body in your kick slide is essential. If you allow your upper body to lean out over your hips then changing direction with the WR will be very difficult. Your lower body can’t move until your upper body is in position to allow it to. Keep an emphasis on keeping a rigid upper body and hands ready to strike when you change direction.
