Slow feet don’t eat they say, and this drill that I’m showing you in this video is going to speed up your feet in a very special way. The 5 cone multi directional drill allows us to incorporate a lot of DB moves in just one drill.

There are several core moves that the DB must master. It’s always good when you can work on multiple things within one drill and that’s what the 5 cone multi directional drill allows you to do. Within this drill, we get to work a Weave, a plant N drive, backpedal and a 90° break. I think we all can agree that those are all very important moves for a DB to master.

As with all of my 5 cone drills, the emphasis is on speeding up the feet and keeping your foot work in your circle (i.e. center of gravity). So on top of working multiple movements at once, we are honing in on a core principle, which is quick feet and explosive steps.

The final thing that is great about this drill is that we are working on one of the most important elements of being a solid DB and that is eye discipline. Out of the final break in these drills, I am coaching the DB to find the receiver out of the break. It’s one of the more essential things that a Defensive back will do while he’s out covering. Defensive backs that tend to stare into the backfield or at the quarterback always tend to be a step too late making a play. When you emphasize finding the receiver out of the break in the drill, you cut down on that being a factor.

So as they say, I can show you better than I can tell you.  Check out the video below that comes with my voiceover instruction and you can see how great this drill can be for you. It’s something you can do when you’re at the field by yourself or within a group whether you are a player, a coach or a trainer. I’m sure you’ll like this one.
