The more you study, the more IQ you have and the more you can anticipate. Trips formation is a very common formation used by offenses these days and in the video below, I talk about some of the best clues you can get from offenses that use this common formation. In the video, I speak in basic terms so that everyone viewing it can understand. It does not take away from the clues that are being given so if you are a coach or an advanced player, don’t be concerned with the basic language, delve into the clues I am giving you about the formation. Having spent some time on the offensive side of the ball, I am keen on some of the challenges they face when attacking a defense as well as the thought process that exists when designing plays. The video is one of my more lengthy videos but it is packed with good info that you can use immediately to put yourself in better position to make plays when the offense you are facing uses the formation. While trips allows the offense to take advantage of the space created when the ball is on the hash (especially in high school and college) there are some elements to the formation that can make it more predictable. When you are putting players in space, the object of the offense is still to out leverage the defenders and in so doing, noticing the ways they are attempting to do that can grant you the power of anticipation.
