Post Views: 1,210 If you have played press man coverage you have no doubt had a receiver get an inside release vs your press coverage. Sometimes it’s what we want and other times not so much. Either way, if you have had to chase a dig, cover a curl or go run down an over route, you know how frustrating that can be. In the video below, I discuss what needs to happen when this situation happens and I show you a drill I use in training to develop a players’ necessary skills to cover these routes when they happen. The big key in these situations are body positioning. Once a receiver gets inside, it is extremely important to get your hips low, your shoulders down and your eye locked onto the receiver’s near hip. A combination of these things will put you in great position to cover the very difficult in breaking routes. Also, understanding that a majority of the time, a receiver’s route will break off when he takes an inside release will help you put yourself in position. Also, a steady diet of the ‘In Break Drill’ will definitely help you improve your defense vs in breaking routes when playing press man. When you know what to do in a situation, it prevents you from panicking and you don’t have to fear inside releases anymore.
