Post Views: 1,453 Cover 2 is one of the best and safest coverages that is available for the defense to use. If you paid attention during the Super Bowl, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers used Cover 2 to neutralize the explosive Kansas City Chiefs’ offense. In this Inside the Session, I am talking to a high school group and give a quick breakdown of Cover 2 for the cornerback, nickel back and the safeties. I am setting up a Cover 2 drill where we run routes against the coverage in a 1/2 field situation. Prior to running the drill, it was necessary for me to review the responsibilities that each player has in Cover 2. Once we review the responsibilities, I set up different route combinations against the defenders and try to find holes in the coverage. If the players have executed their responsibility effectively then it is very difficult to find an open man. I say a lot in the short span of time in the video clip but it is all very important. Feel free to pause the video to take notes or rewind the video to make sure you soak up all of the information. Each player in this scenario should know what the other players have in the coverage. This allows you to be more confident about what you have an also allows you to work better as a team / unit once the offense starts trying to attack your coverage. It’s not good enough to only know YOUR job. Know all of the positions. As always, feel free to send me an email with any and all questions you may have about this video or the member’s area.
