In this edition of Inside the Session, I am talking with my young upstart defensive back group in Miami, Fl about hip flips. It is not something that a lot of young defensive backs practice but it is essential.

In the video, I talk about why it is crucial to learn how to and use hip flips while you are in coverage. Speed turns are easy but they lead to defensive backs getting taken advantage of quite often. Many defensive backs opt to use speed turns because again, they are easy but what is easy is not always good.

Being able to effectively execute a hip flip or series of hip flips is also very important. Having confidence in flipping your hips makes you more likely to choose that over the speed turn when you are in the middle of covering someone. So in the video, I talk about the proper body positioning, focus and steps to executing the hip flip correctly.

Needless to say, this is very important stuff for you to learn as young defensive back. Building the right habits early on makes things easier for you as you continue to progress through the game.
