Post Views: 1,616 Leverage in press coverage is a very important thing that many cornerbacks don’t pay enough attention to. Receivers don’t just lineup wherever on a play. They lineup in a specific spot to be able to run a specific route. As such, we as defenders should be aligning , with that same principle in mind. In the video below, which is a couple of years old, I am talking to a couple of now NFL cornerbacks about their alignment in press and how they should deal with the wide receivers attack of that leverage. There are some common sense things in the discussion that sometimes get lost in the fast paced action of a release by a wide receiver off the line of scrimmage. Sometimes, we, as defensive backs can overreact to a move being made by a wide receiver that is designed to give them more space to run certain routes. If we adopt a common sense mindset as we are going through the process of playing press, you will find that we can move things in our favor as the route develops. Note: due to wind there may be some portions of the video that are difficult to hear, but the most important parts are very audible.
