Post Views: 2,253 Undercutting routes can be fun especially when the actual in route happens. There’s nothing like getting in great position on a dig route, one of the hardest routes to cover and turning around to either see the QB eating the throw or better yet, the ball coming right at you. However, have you ever undercut a route only to have the wide receiver run a 7 route (corner)? Sure you have and chances are he was wide open. Undercutting routes are fun until that happens. As with everything you do as a defensive back, there is a right way and a wrong way to do it. In the video I have below you will learn the proper way to under cut a route and put yourself in good position versus the dig or post while still protecting yourself against the out route or corner route. In the video I break down a drill that I do with my guys to drive home the proper technique when doing this. Very informative and I encourage you try this technique if AND ONLY IF, your coach is ok with you undercutting routes. If he’s not and he’s open minded, you can explain to him how you undercut the route. That MIGHT put him at ease with doing it. Just be prepared to teach others because you know they will start undercutting routes too and may not do it the right way. That will only lead to another ban on route undercutting lol.
