Post Views: 2,331 We can learn a lot from the good route runners. Most of all we can figure out and determine the best ways to defend them. In this video, I breakdown a route that was becoming a big trend in the 2018 NFL season and that was the “glance” route as it is called. The glance route is basically a post out route. The reason that it has become more popular recently is because of the amount of Cover 4 that teams have been running. Someone figured out that the two feared single routes for the cornerback in Cover 4 is the post and the out so why not combine the two. The bigger of the two for the cornerback is the post route. No cornerback likes getting beat over the top on the post route by #1 in Cover 4. So it makes sense that cornerbacks overreact to the post move and thus opening up the World outside for the out route. Let’s give the offenses some credit. You studied the defense and came up with something great. In this video, I show Stefon Diggs running this route to perfection. Diggs is one of the top route runners in the NFL at the moment. What I do in this video is talk you through how this route should be handled. Yes, it’s a nice route but it’s not uncoverable. In fact, when you execute effectively vs. this route, you have a high probability of intercepting. Typically, when this route is being run, that’s the only place the quarterback is going with the ball once he identifies that the defense is indeed running Cover 4. So, if you cover it correctly, the QB has one of two options, throw the ball and hope for the best or take his chances with escaping the rush. Most QBs will just throw it especially if they trust the WR. Enjoy the tips in this video and I look forward to you picking off some glance routes in the near future.
