Post Views: 3,211 When it comes to drills especially for defensive backs, the devil is in the details. Playing defensive back involves many unnatural moves which when not executed properly can turn into disaster for the player. The “Hands on Mirror Drill” is a simple drill when observed by the average athlete or coach. It is certainly easily imitated but without the details it is rarely duplicated. In the video shown below, we get into the details of this very effective drill to teach press man coverage. Some press man techniques require very little work with the arms and more designed for the defensive back to simply try to mirror the release of the wide receiver. While those type of techniques have their place, they are not the type that I favor. Press man was created to disrupt routes not merely attempt to stay near them. This hands on mirror drill kind of marries both the techniques of mirroring along with the techniques of route disruption. Learning and embracing the nuances of this drills gives the defensive back the power to execute more consistently when playing press man coverage. One of the hardest things for defensive backs to do when playing press is move laterally. One of the other hardest things to do is keep your eyes in the proper place as you using both your feet and your hands. This simple drill brings all those things together to create a habit that makes you more effective in press. So enough of telling you why this drill is so good for you. Take in the details that are given to you in the video and make it a point to emphasize them when doing this drill to gain the maximum benefit.
