Post Views: 2,141 By: Chad Wilson Have you ever done good work at the line of scrimmage vs a wide receiver in press only to end up in bad position down the field with the ball getting caught? Chances are you didn’t exit the line of scrimmage the way that you needed to resulting in taking a bad angle. This drill will help you with that. The Slide N Get Up Drill helps the defensive back in press man coverage to get his hips opened efficiently and remain in good position on the wide receiver as the route progresses down the field. There are some technical nuances to the drill that are important. As such they require a lot of repetition to burn the technique into the brain so that you can call on it in the heat of battle. The slide N get up drill is something I would recommend a defensive back practicing daily if not every other day to keep sharp on it. It may seem like a minor thing in press but it is major in your success when it comes to being in position especially on deep routes like fade and post routes. Being on top of those routes while in man is important. In the video I break down the key points in the execution of the drill and show you where the participants go right as well as where they go wrong as they execute the drill. So far as the nuts and bolts of the drill are concerned, you are better served watching the video below than having me try to explain it here.
