Post Views: 2,336 Sometimes our press man technique gets out of whack. It can come seemingly out of nowhere. One day we were good, running around in every receivers’ hip pocket then all of a sudden we can’t touch the receivers and they are having their way with us. One of the reasons why this starts to happen is because we are no longer getting hands on the receivers as they release. We have sacrificed our aggressiveness for wanting to mirror our opponent and stay over the top of them. Overdoing this can lead to every other route being easy for them to run against us which leads to frustration. Next thing you know, you can’t cover anything. When this happens it’s time to get back to basics and that means focusing on getting hands on. In this video below, I show you a drill that I do with defensive backs that emphasizes using their hands and being strong with them. The essence of press man is the press part. You have disrupt the receiver’s route otherwise what’s the point? You might as well play off. So if you are in a slump or kind of new to learning how to play press man, this drill is a good one for you to use. It will turn you back into the defender that receivers hate to go against. You know those guys don’t like to be touched.
