Away from Your Blind Spot

INSIDE THE SESSION: The newest trend across the game of football in the passing game is attacking the back of the defensive back.  It does not help that coaching staffs have decided to ditch the back pedal for constant crossover running.

Anyway,  I will save the sermon on the need to backpedal and discuss how whether or not you back pedal or not,  you will find yourself in a position where you have to come out of that backpedal and into a crossover run.

More and more,  WRs are being taught to immediately attack the back of DBs when they backpedal to get them spinning around.  Most DBs opt for the speed turn when they are attacked in their blindspot upfield.

In this video,  we will discuss a better option and how to execute it.  That better option is the hip flip combined with the punch.  Hip flips allow you to keep your eyes on the WR while covering him and the punch allows you to maintain the space between you and the WR while you are covering him down the field.

The video comes from a session I had with some of my pro clients and the drill is being executed with Tony Lippett who is in his first year with the New York Giants.  Take notes and pay attention to detail.  Don’t be a victim of the new trend WRs are using to make you go viral getting beat.
