Post Views: 3,162 Every defensive back has a tool box. How well you do the job depends greatly on how many tools you have and how good the tools are in your box. One of the essential tools you must have in your box is the ability to flip your hips. They test it every year at the NFL combine but so few cornerbacks are skilled enough at it or use it when in competition. Many take the easy way out which is the speed turn. However, that easy way using yields poor results and that is becoming the case more and more. The recent trend by wide receivers is to attack your blind spot (back) and wait for you to speed turn then break the other way. This leaves the defensive back lost, often out of balance and creates separation for the wide receiver. To avoid this, defensive backs in coverage need to be able to execute a proper hip flip. In the video that I have below, I talk to you about the reasons why the hip flip is essential. I then go into detail about how to execute the hip flip with maximum efficiency. There are a number of small details that add up to being a big thing when it comes time to hip flip in a way that can keep you in good position on the wide receiver without losing speed.
