Post Views: 1,984 In the third addition to my Outstanding Press Man Drills series I talk about two of my favorite press drills. They are simple drills but very effective in teaching the principles of press man coverage. Kick slide mirror teaches the defensive back how to keep his eyes down on a WR while also using his feet to stay in front of him. The key is to maintain proper eye discipline while also using his feet to close off all the lanes for accelerating up field. Your job as a defensive back in press coverage is to widen the release of the WR to disrupt the spacing and timing. The Kick slide mirror drill really enhances the skills need to achieve that objective. The 3 Releases drill is perhaps my favorite press drill. It is very simple, can be done almost anywhere and works the most important part of press man which is the first three steps off of the line. The drills also incorporates training for all three factors in man coverage: Eyes, Feet and Hands. Perhaps the best part of it that the nature of the drill allows the participants to get a tremendous amount of practice in a short amount of time. If there’s one press drill you are going to do then 3 releases is it.
