Post Views: 1,626 By: Chad Wilson – All Eyes DB CAmp Defensive backs in press man have gotten away from using their hands of late. There are a number of reasons for this. The biggest reason I think is because wide receivers have become more skilled in avoiding contact at the line of scrimmage. That’s no excuse. This drill will help you use your hands better. Just because wide receivers have upped their skill level doesn’t mean you should not up yours or abandon the principles of your technique. Press man used to be called bump and run. Today it’s just run with little to no bump. Why? Because players have gotten away from training their hands and training for contact. You will be most effective in press man when you are consistent in making contact with the wide receiver to disrupt his path at the line of scrimmage. It is the essence of why press man was invented. The press man sled drill will hone your bump skills and train you on getting good jams and opening up in a way so that you don’t end up in a bad position after getting your effective jam. Check out the video below and listen to the details I speak about. In particular how you coordinate your eyes, with your feet and your hands. When all three of those things work together, you put yourself in a great position to win every rep or at least to make a play on the ball.
