Sometimes as defensive backs we get to a point in our press man technique where we get a little too much focused on just our eyes and feet.  It is at that time that we forget the press part of press man.

I get it,  the releases that wide receivers take these days can be tricky.  So much so that we can start to feel like us attempting to use our hands puts us at a disadvantage.  Well first of all,  I am here to tell you that nothing could be further from the truth.  There is always a case to be made for getting your hands on the wide receiver.  Second,  when you find yourself consistently not being able to get hands on the wide receivers then it’s time to get your hands some work.

Enter the punch and go drill that I have developed for defensive backs that want to sharpen their hands in press man.  In the video I have below I show you how the drill works plus I give you the points of emphasis for the drill.  Being able to use your hands the right way in press should not be taken for granted.  A bad jam or attempt at a jam can ruin an entire rep.  A rep that was supposed to be a win for you,  the DB,  can end up being a loss because of the wrong hand placement or angle.

I talk about angles in the drill and it really is key.  Pay very close attention to the points I make about your angles once you exit the line of scrimmage with the wide receiver because it is literally everything.  Enjoy the video and as always,  you can reach me with any questions or comments at cwilson@alleyesdbcamp.com – Thank you for being a member.
