Post Views: 2,009 Off man coverage is an underutilized weapon by defensive back these days. I get it, being a press man coverage defensive back gets you more attention and we know how people love attention. However, some situations call for off man and it’s in every DB’s best interest to be proficient in it. One of the biggest things missing from the modern era defensive back is the back pedal. Somewhere along the way, people have decided to re-invent the wheel and decide that DBs are better off turning to one side to be able to defend both. Some say it’s Nick Saban because he has been quoted as saying that his guys don’t even back pedal in practice anymore. Guys, I would never play poker with Coach Saban. If you want to be good at man coverage , both press and off, you have to learn to stay square as long as possible. What’s the only way to stay square in off coverage? You got it right by back pedaling and weaving. In the video below I show you a couple of examples of how a lack of a pedal got a DB beat when playing off man and then I show you a simple drill that I do with the guys I train to get them better at playing off man coverage. I am going to let the video do the talking from here but enjoy it. As always, if you have any questions, feel free to send me an email to: cwilson@alleyesdbcamp.com – Thank you for being a member.
