Curve balls are good and not only in baseball.  Sometimes a WR is getting a little too happy running into your space at the line of scrimmage and gaining an edge on you in the turn as you both proceed down the field.

One of the best ways to discourage such a thing is by throwing in the curve ball which for DBs is known as the quick jam.  You’ve seen it before.  The defensive back rushes the WR right at the snap,  gets hands on him and drives him backwards  thus eliminating the route.  At least that’s what happens at the high school level.

At the college and pro level, it does not have quite that amount of success but when executed correctly it can shock the WR and give you an advantage as a defensive back.  Some players are better at the quick jam than others and a lot of it has to do with your technique.  There is a right way and a wrong way to execute the quick jam.

In this video I’m explaining it to 2019 NFL draftees Nasir Adderly (Delaware) and Rock Ya Sin (Temple).  Pay attention to the details I go over in the video because it’s the details that count.
