Post Views: 1,562 I decided to do a What’d He Do Wrong segment on this video since it got a good amount of attention on my Instagram page and the criticisms were harsh. What is highlighted in this rep are the dangers of wanting to do speed turns all the time in training. What you do in training eventually becomes a habit in games. Speed turns look pretty but they are detrimental. I call speed turns an extreme emergency move. They should be a last resort and you will be shown why in the video. Some defensive backs and their trainers make it an integral part of their training. They feel like there is no situation that doesn’t deserve a speed turn. Essentially a speed turn is literally turning your back to a WR in hopes of him being there when you turn around. No one reading this that plays defensive back would think it wise to close their eyes for a second or even two while covering a WR. Basically, that is what you are doing with a speed turn. You are removing your eyes from the WR for a second or two hoping for him to be there when you open back up your eyes. In this 1-on-1 rep from the Senior Bowl you will see how unnecessary speed turns put this DB in a losing position vs. a route he most certainly could’ve covered with the proper technique. Enjoy.
